This is a very intelligent article about Rolfing Structural Integration (SI). It is about opera singer Florian Thomas and the dramatic transformation he experienced – in his voice and stage presence, in his body overall, and in his life – as he went through the "Ten Series." The Ten Series is a ten-session process of Rolfing SI where each session creates the conditions for change in the next, allowing a global holistic process of body and posture change that I describe to my clients in Seattle as "a 50,000-mile tune-up for your body."
Thomas relates how after working hard to improve his health – by losing 45 kilos of weight – he still had back pain and found his posture felt "stuck in a certain position, as though I was still carrying the old weight." He tried Rolfing SI, and found it more transformative than any of the other modalities he'd tried and benefitted from (osteopathy, Feldenkrais Method®, weight training...) and describes the results as "life-changing" – improving both his singing and stage presence, but also inspiring other changes to the point that he decided to give up a secure position with the Vienna State Opera to be a freelance opera singer, voice coach, and also train as a Rolfer himself.
Thomas's story is a wonderful one of how as the body changes holistically, so many other circumstances in our lives can also be freed up to find their potentiality.
